Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities

According to estimates from a United Nations Report, more than half of the world’s population lives in urban areas today. Increasing migration from rural areas to urban areas, growth of existing population in urban areas and reclassification of surrounding non-urban areas to urban areas are the key reasons for the growth in urban population.

Tamil Nadu has the largest share of urban population amongst Indian States. In fact, 9.3% of the India’s urban population and 8.9% of the India’s slum population reside in Tamil Nadu.
