SDG 16 aims to promote justice, peaceful and inclusive societies. All other SDGs can be achieved only if societies across the world and in every country live peacefully, free from fear and violence and feel safe as they go about their lives irrespective of their ethnicity and faith.
SDG 16 encourages governments, civil societies, and communities to work together and implement policies to reduce violence, deliver justice, reduce corruption and ensure inclusive participation of all stakeholders in the process.
Tamil Nadu had the 7th highest rate of cognizable IPC crimes in India in comparison to other States and Union Territories. Tamil Nadu accounts for 6% of total IPC crimes in India. However, as per National Crime Records Bureau, the violent crime rate in 2016 was less than half compared to national average. The State is performing better than many States, especially southern States.
